# How to fix (Other) traffic channel in Google Analytics
## How to fix the (Other) channel in Google Analytics
Seeing a lot of traffic in the **(Other)** or **Unassigned** channel in your Google Analytics acquisition reports? This page shows you how to find those sources and move them into the right channel with a custom channel group.
### Why traffic ends up outside your channels
Google Analytics sorts traffic into channels using a [default channel group](https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/9756891) with fixed rules. You can't edit the default group. When a source and medium don't match any rule, Google Analytics reports the traffic as **Unassigned**.

A row called **(other)** can also show up when a report has too many unique values and Google Analytics condenses the data. That isn't a channel problem. To fix it, you can either:
* change your UTM tags to match the default channel rules, or
* create a custom channel group with rules that match your UTM tags.
Custom channel groups work in any report that supports the default channel group, such as the acquisition reports. You can also use them as a secondary dimension.
### Find the sources outside your channels

**Open an acquisition report**
In Google Analytics, go to **Reports** > **Acquisition** > **User acquisition** or **Traffic acquisition**.

**Show source and medium**
Change the primary dimension to source / medium.

**Filter by channel**
Add a filter where the default channel group exactly matches the channel you want to check, for example **Unassigned**.

### Open channel groups

**Go to Channel groups**
In Google Analytics, go to **Admin** > **Data display** > **Channel groups**.

The table lists the default channel group and any groups you've created.
From here you can create, edit and remove groups, and add, edit, reorder and remove channels in a group.
### Create a custom channel group
You create a channel group by copying an existing one. Your first group starts as a copy of the default group.

Traffic goes into the first channel whose rules it matches, in the order the channels are listed. Put your most specific channels near the top.

**Start a new group**
Click **Create new channel group** to start with a copy of the default group.
Or, to copy another group, click the **⋮** menu in its row and choose **Copy to create new**.

**Name the group**
Enter a group name and, if you like, a description.

**Reorder channels if needed**
Click **Reorder**, drag the channels into the order you want, then click **Apply**.

**Save the group**
Click **Save group**.

### Add a channel to a group

**Start a new channel**
In the group, click **Add new channel**. Or click the **⋮** menu in a channel's row and choose **Copy to create new**.

**Name the channel**
Enter a channel name, or change the name of the copied channel.

**Set the conditions**
For a new channel, click **Add condition group**, then choose the dimensions and values that define the channel. For a copied channel, change the existing conditions or add new ones.

**Save the channel**
Click **Save channel**, then **Save group**.

### Edit a channel in a group

**Open the channel**
In the group, click **>** in the channel's row.

**Change it**
Edit the channel name, description or conditions.

**Save**
Click **Save channel**, then **Save group**.

### Remove a channel from a group

**Open the group**
In the **Channel groups** list, click **>** in the group's row.

**Remove the channel**
Click the **⋮** menu in the channel's row and choose **Remove channel**. Then click **Save group**.
