# How to track subscription purchases in Meta Ads

View subscription purchases side-by-side with standard purchase metrics in Meta Ads Manager!

When you have the Littledata to Meta (Conversions API) connection active, Littledata automatically tracks Shopify subscription events and routes them to Meta.

To view subscription purchases side-by-side with standard purchase metrics in Meta Ads Manager, you must register the dedicated incoming event called “First Recurring Purchase - Littledata” as a Custom Conversion.

### Why set up a custom conversion?

By default, Meta treats standard purchases and subscription orders within the overall Purchase metric. Registering a dedicated Custom Conversion gives you clearer visibility into subscription performance:

* Direct attribution: see exactly how many new subscribers each campaign, ad set, or ad creative brings in.
* Side-by-side reporting: analyze subscriber acquisition right alongside standard, one-time purchases in your Meta Ads Manager tables.
* Goal alignment: focus on new subscriber volume without relying on Meta for complex Return on Ad Spend (ROAS) or LTV calculations.

### Step-by-step setup guide

1. Log in to your Meta Ads Manager account. In the navigation menu select Events Manager.

2. In the left-hand navigation sidebar, navigate to Custom conversions, and create a new custom conversion, by clicking the Create Custom Conversion button to open the configuration pop-up window.
3. Configure the custom event: from the Event dropdown select First Recurring Order - Littledata
4. Give your event a clear name (we used first\_recurring\_purchase but the snake case, nor any other isn’t mandatory).

Ensure the proper data source i.e. pixel is selected!
{% endhint %}

You have the option to enter a custom monetary value to reflect the estimated worth of a new subscriber to your brand, but since the primary goal is tracking subscriber acquisition volume rather than using Meta as your main ROAS reporting tool, setting a precise value is optional.

### How to Display the Metric in Ads Manager Reports

Once created, add this custom conversion to your reporting tables:

1. Go to Meta Ads Manager.
2. Click the Columns dropdown menu above the performance table and select Customize columns.
3. Search for the name of your new Custom Conversion (first\_recurring\_purchase in our case).
4. Click Apply to save the view

### Conclusion

By setting up "First Recurring Purchase" as a custom conversion, you bridge the gap between subscription sales and ad performance directly within Meta Ads Manager.

This setup allows you to easily track subscriber growth down to the individual ad level (or ad set or campaign!) and optimize your marketing budget for this specific customer type acquisition. With this metric active in your reports, you can make clear, data-driven decisions that scale your Shopify subscription business.
