Integrating Consentmo with Shopify

Consentmo provides a comprehensive way to manage users' cookie preferences, and ensure GDPR cookie compliance.

In this article we'll show you how to set up Consentmo with Shopify for cookie compliance.

Step-by-step guide​

  1. Access Littledata Dashboard

  2. Go to Connections

  3. Select the service for which you want to apply the consent settings

  4. Access the General section of the connected service

  5. Enable the Consent Mode option there

  6. In the confirmation modal, tick the "I understand" option.

  7. Confirm and Save the changes

This ensures all tracking services are initially blocked until visitor consent is obtained, as required by privacy laws.

All of the above needs to be synchronized with the settings in Shopify and the Consentmo GDPR app as well.

Consent banner format

Beyond being a critical component of user experience, your e-commerce site's consent banner significantly influences the integrity and utility of the collected data.

Starting on 12th of December 2024, Consentmo is integrated with the Shopify API which allows you to set the regions where you need the Shopify Customer Privacy settings applied, to be set directly from the app settings:

  1. Navigate to the Cookie banner tab of Consentmo app

  2. Open the Geolocation section.

  3. Choose the regions where you want the cookie banner to be displayed for and data to be collected only after consent and Save the changes.

Setting up the Customer Privacy regions via Shopify​

  1. Navigate to Shopify Admin > Settings > Customer Privacy.

  2. In the Cookie Banner, select More Actions > Set Custom Banner Regions.

  3. Choose regions where data collection occurs only after consent and save, as shown in this VIDEO

In the Consentmo GDPR app, go to the Cookie Banner tab > Behavior section Cookie banner behavior > Show more

Set all cookie groups to be un-checked initially.

Conclusion​

Implementing these configurations ensures that both applications maintain full synchronization with Shopify’s Customer Privacy API. Consequently, tracking functionalities will dynamically activate or remain restricted in direct response to the consent preferences expressed by visitors via the Cookie banner. This automation guarantees that your data collection practices remain consistently aligned with individual user choices and platform standards.
