Getting Started

Follow this instructional guide to setup your Bold Subscriptions to Google Analytics connection.

Prerequisites:

tip:

Littledata's Bold connection works for Segment users too. If you're sending data from Shopify to Segment and then using Google Analytics as a destination, you should also follow the steps in this guide to track first-time orders.

Step 1 (Bold v1 only)

  • Go to your Bold Subscriptions admin
  • Go to Settings > General > Set Subscription tag
  • Select the 'Create a tag for the first subscription order' checkbox
  • Add the tag as first_recurring_order  (exact spelling is important)

  • If you have the native Bold Subscriptions to Google Analytics integration enabled, make sure to untick the Enable Ecommerce box and hit Save.

Littledata takes over the Ecommerce tracking and sends the orders to your Google Analytics account from our servers, rather than from Bold's checkout.

Step 2: Add the Bold Subscriptions connection in Littledata

Within Littledata's app, click CONNECT next to Bold Subscriptions.

Add Bold Subscriptions

Then, choose the installation type.

With the Recommended route, the following views are created automatically:

  • One time orders & First time subscriptions (Littledata)
  • All orders (Littledata)
  • Raw backup DO NOT EDIT (Littledata)

From here, you’re all set - all the first time and recurring orders are being sent only GA.

Custom installation

With the Custom route, views and filters are not automatically applied. You'll need to complete the following steps yourself:

  1. Go to your Google Analytics setting and create three views by clicking Create view button. We suggest the following names:
  • One time orders & First time subscriptions (Littledata)
  • All orders (Littledata)
  • Raw backup DO NOT EDIT (Littledata)
  1. For each of the three views, go to Ecommerce Settings one by one, and
  • Enable Ecommerce
  • Enable Ecommerce Reporting
  • Press Save
  1. Then, you'll add a filter to exclude recurring orders:
  • Go to One time orders & First time subscriptions (Littledata) view settings

  • Add a filter with the following properties:

    • Name: Exclude recurring orders (Littledata)
    • Filter Type: Custom and Exclude
    • Filter Field: Ecommerce Store or Order Location
    • Filter Pattern: ^recurring_order$
  • Click Save at the bottom of the page

  1. And finally, you’ll add a filter to exclude duplicate orders. For both the One time orders & First time subscriptions (Littledata) view and the All orders (Littledata) view, add the following filter:
  • Go to view settings

  • Add filter with the following properties:

    • Name: Exclude duplicate orders (Littledata)
    • Filter Type: Custom and Exclude
    • Filter Field: Ecommerce Store or Order Location
    • Filter pattern: Type in your website URL (eg. www.mywebsite.com)
  • Click Save at the bottom of the page.
